If you like wines and you get annoyed when other people pretend to know more than you, you cannot miss out on the wine-tasting courses offered by the prestigious Peñín guide, in the heart of the Gran Vía in Madrid (number 16). Here, you can find wines from different DOs, such as Ribera del Duero, Rioja and other peripheral wine cellars, as well as some from emerging wine countries such as Chile, Argentina and Mexico.

Each course lasts for two hours and it will help you learn to develop your sense of smell and to interpret the different aromas, as well as to decipher the different nuances that each wine offers to the palate. They also have beer-tasting courses, at a time where craft beer is growing in popularity among the Spanish people and bars. Prices range from 30 to 50 euros per person and you can also buy gift vouchers if you would like to treat someone to a course. Find out more information on their website.

However, if cooking is your thing, you cannot miss out on the cooking classes at Kitchen Club, also in the centre of Madrid (Calle de la Ballesta, 8). They have an endless list of cooking modalities that are enriching not just for their content but also for the great time you will have taking part in them with the rest of students. The courses culminate in a big meal where you can eat all the recipes you made, accompanied by selected bottles of wine (all of it included in the price).

The courses are quite dynamic and adapt to each season, which you can see in its special Christmas cooking class. In any case, don’t miss out on their other courses: fresh-pasta and sauces, Italian cuisine, soups and stews, Japanese cuisine and ramen, noodles and bao. Course prices start at 70 euros and last for 3h 30 on average in groups of no more than 14 students.
