Museo CerralboThere is more cultural life than that offered by the great temples of art, such as the Reina Sofía, El Prado, etc. Let’s try and discover those other more discreet museums that hold many small treasures. One of them is the Cerralbo Museum, the old residence of the Marquis of Cerralbo, which has the attraction of its facilities being the very own house of this member of the Spanish aristocracy, holding valuable art and furniture.

This old 19th-century palace in the Argüelles district exhibits many curious items, among which an Ericsson phone from 1897. Today, you can also see an interesting photography exhibition by Korda, the photographer that took the famous caption of Che Guevara. Focused on the feminine portrait and being part of the PhotoEspaña festival, you can visit this exhibition until September 6th, with free entry.

The Madrid Naval Museum is another museum that is not as popular as it deserves to be. Its programme includes interesting exhibitions like the one commissioned by the famous writer Arturo Pérez Reverte called Men of Sea, legendary boats. It tells the story of 11 legendary boats of epic historical moments, such as the legendary Argon (with its argonauts) or the galley Marquesa, which fought the Battle of Lepanto with a brave Miguel de Cervantes on board.

In the Malasaña district, there are two little museums with plenty of charm. One is the Romanticism Museum, a trip back in time to the aristocratic world of the 19th century, with its Rococo furniture, clocks and colourful decoration. The other is the Museum of History, on Calle Fuencarral, next to Tribunal metro, which includes a couple of models of 19th-century Madrid as part of its many attractions, incredible to see from above and discover what the city was like almost 200 years ago.

Make the most of your stay in Madrid and discover all the lesser-known attractions in the city. Stay at Hotel Quatro Puerta del Sol and enjoy a stay in a designer hotel of the highest quality located in the heart of Madrid, offering excellent value for money.
