Café-Concert: music for free in the best atmosphere

Cafe Central MadridTheir atmosphere is special. These are bars in which shows seem to be spontaneous and that happen when you least expect them to, in an atmosphere that is more casual than in a large venue. We can recuperate the spirit of café-concerts in bars like La Fídula, on Calle Huertas, 57. It is free to enter but drinks have a supplement if there is a performance going on. The music genres are varied, from soul to flamenco and including jazz.

Nearby is another of the temples of these cosy concerts: Café Central, on Plaza del Ángel, next to Santa Ana. Every week, famous musicians gather here, such as Pedro Iturralde, who is playing on the 5th of May (ticket price: 15 euros) or the trio Carmona & Colina & Bandolero, who will be all week from the 11th to the 17th of May, with ticket prices ranging from 12 to 13 euros.

Specialising in jazz and Latin jazz, it would delight all fans of this music genre, such as Fernando Trueba in the documentary Calle 54. Concerts take place daily all year long and a free from 10.00pm and 11.00pm with only a small supplement on drinks.

Between Puerta del Sol and Teatro Real (not far from our design hotel in the centre of Madrid), you can find another essential bar that allows you to listen to live music without paying to enter: La Coquette. Good blues is played in an atmosphere that reminisces of Chicago, performed in a basement with an arched structure, a cellar with charm. Soul Station, on Cuesta de Santo Domingo, enjoys playing funk, soul or R&B. La Boca del Lobo, on Calle Echegaray, 11, is also another popular place where you can listen to live music. Wednesdays and Thursdays are jam-session days and the weekends are for proper concerts from 11.30pm.
