PhotoEspaña, la fiesta de la imagen

By | 20 May, 2014 | 0 comments

The festival began in 1998 and has consolidated itself year after year as a must of photography exhibitions, attracting more and more visitors every year and opening venues in places other than Madrid, such as Toledo, Aranjuez, Paris, Lisbon or Cuenca. Since then, its prestige has not stopped growing.

Its exhibitions are spread around the city of Madrid, both in small galleries and large cultural centres, such as the Centro Cultural de la Villa – Fernán Gómez Theatre, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Reina Sofía Museum or the Centro Conde Duque.

The 2014 edition is the beginning of a new era, in which the theme will focus on a geographic area rather than on a concept. And so, in this year’s edition, Spanish photography will be the protagonist, with names such as Alberto García-Alix, José Ortiz-Echagüe, Antoni Arissa or Sara Ramo. However, there will also be exhibitions by Spanish authors organised around specific subjects, such as 1970s photographic documentaries or modern Spanish architecture between 1925 and 1965.

As well as all of these exhibitions, whose details you can find out on the website, there will be a series of activities that revolve around photography, such as the Photolibros Fair, where they offer the chance to amateur and professional photographers to sell their own books during the festival. There is also the ¡Retrátate! festival, where locals and visitors can be models for a day for artists that specialise in portraits. The activity will take place on 21-22 of June and the

portraits will be part of an impressive exhibition that will occupy the façade of the Old Flour Factory in Getafe (Antigua Fábrica de Harinas). A perfect occasion to immerse oneself in the best of Spanish photography and in the best conditions, since the exhibitions are free and the authors have been selected by expert committees.
